Second Breakfast: Tai Wah Cafe, 84 Jalan Argyle, 10050
极乐寺 Kek Lok Si Temple, Jalan Balik Pulau
Poor Terrapins had nothing to eat, I bought a whole bunch of kang kong and fed them.
Lighted a medium sized lamp for Han and I, and a mini lamp for Ardan.
They had these wish ribbons going for RM1 each that you could get. The wishes were the usual ones for wealth, health, harmony and whatnot. There were also ones you could get for kids/babies and wish that your kid is beautiful/handsome, listens to you, listens to your spouse, grow up faster, is smart, stay safe and be healthy etc. I asked Ling to get the beautiful and handsome one haha.
We then took a lift up to see the huge Guanyin statue at the top. I prayed for Yang and Ling.
Lunch: Air Itam Assam Laksa, Air Itam Market (Jalan Pasar)
Lam Heng Cafe, 185 Macalister Road
The char koay teow and prawn noodle aren’t anything to rave about. The lor mee is nice. The otah isn’t too bad.
Village Fish Head Bee Hoon, Pengkalan Weld
You can choose fish soup base or tomyum soup base, noodles, bee hoon or Maggie noodles and fresh or fried fish. The fried fish is very good. There’s a special drink called Pink Lady which tastes like Cendol.
First Stop: Hon Kei Food Corner, 45 Kampung Malabar
First stop was to have some lunch at Hon Kei Food Corner. It was a modern looking coffee shop which sells Bak Kut Teh on one side and Lor Bak on the other side. The side that sells Bak Kut Teh sells butter kaya toast as well. Yang ordered some to try and it was the best item we tried at this place.
Second Stop: Pinang Peranakan Mansion
It is said that men would pick their brides based on their handiwork, and not based on looks. The girls were trained from young in beading and embroidery and it was a very stressful environment for them to ensure they could sew well.
I felt very conflicted while I was there. A part of me wished I was able to learn how to make such intricate handicraft, while at the same time was thankful I was not borned in such a stressful environment. Ling assured me that I would have one of the best husbands around if I were born in that time. Lol.
People would put their babies in the rattan baby chair, and to prevent them from moving about, tie their hands and legs to the chair as well. Sounds kinda inhumane though.
Third Stop: 三条路888福建面, 67-A Lebuh Presgrave
Our third stop was for dinner. The soup in the prawn noodle was pretty authentic. I had roast pork added to my prawn noodle, and they were really good. If you want, you could choose to have bee hoon only, noodles only, Maggie mee, or mix the kind of noodles.
The orh jian was a disappointment, so don’t get that if you’re there. I didn’t manage to take a photo, but our best buy was the Cendol, followed by the prawn noodles, then the wanton mee.
Fourth Stop: Durians
We went for some durians after dinner, I didn’t manage to get the address, but here are some photos.
My first BBF trip with MZ, and also my first trip to Hong Kong. It’s a shopping paradise. After having been there, I don’t feel like doing any shopping in Singapore, except for necessities. Pics are on Facebook, and of course you can only view it if you’re my friend.
Having a staycation at RWS was on my to-do list and I checked it off with Han. We bought the Voyage de la Vie 2D1N Theatrical Experience package, which comes with 2 tickets to the performance, so we bought our tickets to USS separately. I enjoyed the performance very very much. Was utterly fascinated by the body contortionist boy, and also pleasantly surprised to see my school mate Jonathan Leong as one of the main characters in the show. I particularly liked the pair of magicians and Sparkles the rabbit! As well as the two babes strutting around in different costumes. 😀
A lot of people who know me prolly knows that I didn’t have much of a childhood, was a latch key kid from primary school onwards, and was pretty independent by the time I was in secondary school (Disclaimer: There are no adverse effects to being a latch key kid, I love my family very much), and pretty much worked every school holiday I had. So, anyway, I really really loved USS! I liked taking pics with the mascots, going on the rides, seeing all the quirky buildings and buying myself a potion of cranberry juice (like HP pot, you know?!). I’ve never met anyone who indulged in my childishness so much. I love my baobao. 🙂
Long over due post. I went away when 2010 began, first to Malaysia and then to Bali. Learnt how to surf, was sunburnt, had abrasions and fell into many tourist traps. Food was awesome every time, except for the first meal when we first arrived and didn’t know where to eat. Haha.
Photos are already up onFacebook. You can only view it if you’re my friend, and not in the… you know, restricted list.
2010 started off nicely. 🙂 We travelled to Kuala Lumpur and Malacca from 1 Jan to 3 Jan, then to Bali from 6 Jan to 10 Jan. Will put up Bali pics once I have all the pics from Kevin. Too lazy to upload twice.
The Malaysia road trip was something we have been talking about for the longest time and finally got down to doing it. I remember nothing from the trip, due to lack of sleep, and also because we did nothing except to eat for the entire 3 days. We then burned off all the food during the Bali trip. Haha.
Tried dirt biking for the first time today, and… I don’t like it. Haha. I am not adept at controlling unstable things with wheels so I’ll prolly pass on the next dirtbiking outing. For anybody who’s interested, we went to Tristan Park, Pengarang. I was on the 125cc bike and I top the scoreboard for falling down the most times today, both times having one leg pinned down by the bike. See my battle scars below, blue black on both legs (yes, I know I have the complexion of a corpse) and a strip of sun burnt skin cos I didn’t spread my sunblock far enough my shoulder blade. Lame LOL.
As I grow older, I realise that I am more and more gu niang. LOL. Run away at the sight of fishes in my face when snorkelling, going like a turtle on off-road terrain on the bike cos I’m damn kiasee, super heart pain I have these awful blue blacks on my ghostly legs and so on. :/ Yes, I am anti gu niang, but I cannot anti something if I am one of them. Haha.
Plane was delayed so we spent our day shopping and eating in the airport. What a waste of time. 🙁
19 July: 台北
Wanted to go up Taipei 101, but had to pay, so we didn’t go. Haha.
Then wanted to go take pictures at some lake, but ended up at a temple. According to the locals, only locals visit that temple, so it’s prolly fate we stumbled upon it. Was kinda embarrassing cos I was not dressed adequately to visit the temple. Also, we freaking climbed up the mountain on foot to get to it. Unbelievable.
Went to fisherman’s wharf to catch the sunset.
Then to Shih lin night market hoping to grab some bargains. I broke the zip of a handbag and ran out of the shop without buying the bag. 😡
Went to 故宫 in the morning, then home sweet home after.
