Gran Torino

I watched Gran Torino today and found it to be a very meaningful movie. I haven’t had the time to check out the trailer or read the synopsis beforehand, was wondering what to expect when the movie began. I decided to watch based on PK’s comment that it’s a deep movie, and also at my movie kaki’s suggestion. He heard that the movie’s very good. Spoilers under the cut.

I liked Clint Eastwood’s character. He didn’t give a shit (or dipshit, quoting Walt Kowalski :p) about what other people think and did/said whatever he wanted. He was also inherently a good man, which was nice. :) However, the scene where Sue (played by Ahney Her) came back all broken hit a raw nerve in me. Her pain on screen felt very real in my heart. I was surprised at the ending. I thought that Walt would bring Thao for a showdown with the gangsters, or at least kill all of them alone, I didn’t expect him to sacrifice himself to get them all locked up. This ending became apparent to me only when the gangsters’ neighbors started coming out of their houses to watch the commotion.
